Throughout the years I have noticed a major issue within the photography industry; competition. So many photographers avoid sharing their tips + tricks, and how they found their way on this journey, refusing to help beginner or aspiring photographers. Not cool.
I remember when I first started in photography three years ago, having no idea how to shoot in manual mode and being so overwhelmed with all the photography lingo. I would spend countless nights searching the internet, (procrastinating doing my college homework while binging on photography forums,) hoping to find a jackpot of information that would solve all my problems. Unfortunately, it didn’t exist. Bummer.
Despite not having help when I started, I finally figured out enough information to successfully run a photography business. Instead of finding one photographer to follow that I thought had it all, I researched hundreds of photographers (both in and out of the U.S.) That was the day it all changed for me; I found creatives who willingly shared their information and hosted classes and workshops, because they too had to do it all by themselves in the beginning.
Long story short… I want to be that creative that’s here for you. I’m on YOUR team. I don’t want you to waste time reading the wrong, unhelpful information to get you started. I want you to be able to fast-forward through the whole “I am extremely lost and have no idea what I’m doing and want to cry because this market is so saturated and everyone is better than me” phase, and start DOING.
I value community over competition. I want to help you succeed. I don’t know what your excuse is, but toss it. Maybe yours was the same as mine. Maybe you feel there are so many photographers already out there making a living you couldn’t possibly compete or stand out. But let me tell you this, to heck with this “saturated market” mentality. It took me a long time to call myself a “photographer,” or to even pursue photography because there were so many in my town. But one day I decided I deserved to be happy too. If there’s so many photographers out there, there’s got to be room for one more. (And there is! For YOU!)
I’m super excited to announce that Jessica Vickers Photography is now offering mentorships! Now, this does NOT mean that I have it all together. It doesn’t mean that I know everything, or that I’m a pro at this. Truth is, we’re all lost. But some of us have perfected or found certain techniques that keep people coming back to our art, and investing in us as both professionals and as people. And honestly, I think that’s what everyone truly wants.
